We believe the values and skills learned early on are vital building blocks for life. Because of the Y more young people are taking a greater interest in learning and making smarter life choices. At the Y, children and teens learn values and positive behaviors, and can explore their unique talents and interests, helping them realize their potential. Programs that bring talents and opportunities to the forefront are: Infant Care, Early Learning, VPK, Before and After School Enrichment (BASE), Literacy and Math Tutoring, Youth Leadership & Youth in Government, Youth Sports Leagues (Basketball, Flag Football, Golf, Soccer, Tennis, T-Ball, Volleyball, Martial Arts), Gymnastics & Dance, Safety Around Water and Swim Lessons, SKY Academy, a tuition-free, public, charter middle school in Sarasota County (Venice and Englewood).

Being healthy means more than simply being physically active. It’s about maintaining a balanced spirit, mind, and body. The Y is a place where you can work toward that balance by challenging yourself to learn a new skill or hobby, fostering connections with friends through our lifelong learning programs, or bringing your loved ones closer together through our many family-centered activities. Opportunities for people to find that balance include: Fitness Centers (Teen - Seniors), Health & Wellness (Group Exercise, Personal Training and Sports Therapy), Chronic Disease Prevention (Parkinson's Programs, Cardiac Care Rehab), Adult Sports & Recreation (Sports Leagues, Masters Swimming, Martial Arts, Racquetball, Volleyball, Triathlon Training) and Group Interests (Wellness seminars and speakers, community gatherings.)

The generosity of others is at the core of the Y’s existence as a nonprofit. We engage YMCA members and volunteers in activities that strengthen our community and pave the way for future generations to thrive. In 2021, YMCA of Southwest Florida awarded $1,171,384 of membership and program scholarships to children and families in our communities. Other ways we support our neighbors include: Social Services (Licensed and contracted site for abused and at-risk children), Global Services (Special events, including community outreach events and participation), Volunteerism & Giving (Scholarships and program support), Advocacy - through partnerships with other organizations in the government, public and non-profit sectors and we work to support the community needs of our Y children, adults and families.

YMCA of Southwest Florida transitioned from a July 1 - June 30 fiscal year to a calendar year effective January 1, 2021. YMCA of Southwest Florida’s 2022 financial statements were impacted by several non-cash transactions: 1. Received PPP #2 forgiveness for $2,000,000 (Refer to Note 9). 2. Manatee YMCA merger, resulting in a FMV asset valuation increase of $12,867,845 (Refer to Note 15). 3. Natural disaster insurance proceeds were reported, as well as accrued costs in 2022. The unordinary occurrences of PPP and the merger resulted in $14,867,845 of non-cash 2022 revenue causing a positive change in net assets without cash implications.
